Escape Dynamics Ground Based Space Propulsion

By August 9, 2015Season 8, TMRO Live

In this episode of TMRO we have the CEO/CTO of Escape Dynamics Dmitriy Tseliakhovich, Ph.D. to talk about ground based propulsion. Think chemical rockets are the only way to get to space? Think again!

In Space News we have:
* Wideband Global SATCOM launch via Delta IV
* Launch of Expedition 44 crew via Soyuz Rocket
* Falcon 9 Flight Failure – Support Strut
* Space Selfie and Moon Transit
* NTSB findings of SpaceShipTwo

    I love that you guys did an interview with Escape Dynamics. Beamed propulsion has been one of my favorite next generation concepts because of the reduced size of the launchers, which should allow for smaller entities with less capital to develop, build, and potentially launch. Also neither parts of the array nor the launchers themselves necessarily have to be designed, built, or owned by the same people. We imagine it that way, but I think we could make the business case for sharing the risks and benefits between many independent players. This system would truly democratize space access and change everything.

    Have you considered getting Jordin Kare from Laser Motive to talk about his “Modular Laser Launch Architecture” paper from 2004?

    I heard the array would cost 1-3b$…
